Driveways in the Outer East
The outer east covers the 1960s to 1980s brick veneer heartland from Ringwood and Croydon down through Bayswater and the Knox suburbs. A large share of driveways in this region are originals at the end of their life, typically cracked along the wheel tracks or dropped at the crossover where the base has washed out over the decades.
The ground is mostly clay loam that shifts with the seasons, and the land undulates, so plenty of blocks fall to or from the street. On falling blocks the driveway grade matters as much as the surface: it needs to be set so a standard car clears the crossover, with the fall directed to the kerb rather than the garage. Removal and replacement is the most common job type in this region for exactly these reasons.
Knox and Maroondah both run vehicle crossing permit processes, and Knox typically pairs the crossing permit with an asset protection permit. Details for each council are in the crossover guide.
