A driveway crew is set up for exactly this kind of work: formwork, steel, a clean pour and a proper finish on flat ground. The same preparation, the same mesh and the same 25 MPa concrete that goes into our driveways goes into every path, slab and patio, because a slab that cracks is a slab poured on poor preparation no matter what is parked on it.

Shed and garage slabs

A shed is only as good as the slab under it. The area is cleared and prepped, base material is brought in and compacted where the ground needs it, and the slab is poured with steel mesh and a level finish so the shed frame sits flat and the doors line up. Rebates and hold-down points are formed in where your shed supplier’s drawings call for them. Tell us the shed brand and size at the quote and the slab is set out to match.

Patios and alfresco areas

An alfresco pad has to do two jobs: look good next to the house and drain away from it. The fall is set at the site measure so water leaves the slab rather than sitting against the wall, and the slab is isolated from the house with a jointing strip so the two can move independently. For the finish you can keep it simple with a steel trowel or broom finish, or carry the driveway’s exposed aggregate or colour through so the front and back of the property match.

Paths and side strips

Side paths, bin runs, clothesline pads and garden paths. Small pours have a higher per metre rate on their own, which is why the smart time to do them is while a driveway pour is booked: the concrete, the crew and the gear are already on site, and the offcut of a driveway load often covers a path.

Pool surrounds

Concrete around a pool needs grip when wet, which is why exposed aggregate and broom finishes are the usual choice, sealed so the surface holds up to pool chemicals and sun. Coping, falls and the junction with existing paving are set out at the site measure.

Why the per metre rate is different

Driveway rates start lower because driveways are bigger, simpler shapes. Small flatwork carries the same fixed costs in a smaller pour, so the per metre rate runs from about $90 for straightforward work bundled with a driveway up to $140 for small, cut-up or hard-access jobs. The quote is fixed either way, and bundling with a driveway is the cheapest way to buy it.

From enquiry to a driveway you can park on

Call or send the form with the suburb and the type of driveway. A site measure is booked, usually within a few days.

Site measure and fixed quote

Dimensions, fall, access and drainage are assessed on site. A council crossover permit may be required for the street section. The written quote is fixed.

Preparation and pour

Existing surface removed and the area prepped, with base material brought in where needed. Mesh laid, crossover formwork inspected by council, then the pour. Most residential driveways are one day on site.

Cure and seal

Vehicles off for seven days. Exposed aggregate is sealed after the concrete has cured.

Paths, slabs and patios questions

Do you pour shed slabs on their own, or only with a driveway?

Both. Smaller stand-alone jobs carry a higher per metre rate because the truck, crew and gear cost the same to mobilise for 20 m2 as for 80 m2. If you can pair the slab with a driveway or a neighbour's job, the rate comes down.

How thick should a shed slab be?

Around 100mm with steel mesh suits a garden shed or workshop with normal use. If a vehicle, hoist or heavy machinery will sit on it, a thicker slab with heavier reinforcement is quoted. Tell us what is going in the shed and the slab is specified to match.

Do I need a permit for a shed slab or patio?

The concrete itself usually does not need one, but the shed that sits on it may. Larger sheds and roofed alfresco structures can require a building permit depending on size and siting. Check with your council or your shed supplier before the pour is booked.

Can you match a patio to my driveway finish?

Yes. Plain, broom finish, coloured or exposed aggregate can all be carried through from the driveway to paths and the alfresco area so the whole frontage and yard read as one job.

Do you do house slabs?

Not as a standalone job. Our crews are set up for driveways and flatwork. For a house or unit slab, talk to your builder's concreter.

How long before I can use it?

Foot traffic after about 24 hours. Give a shed slab about a week before the shed goes up and longer before anything heavy sits on it, since concrete keeps gaining strength for around a month.
