Free site measure Plain, exposed aggregate and coloured Insured contractor Melbourne's east, south east and bayside

From $95 to $130 per m², supplied and laid

A plain concrete driveway is still the most cost effective surface you can put down, and done properly it will outlast the house paint several times over.

What goes into ours

  • Removal of the old surface and full site preparation, with base material brought in and compacted where the ground needs it
  • A membrane where required, steel mesh reinforcement and 25 MPa concrete
  • Control joints cut so any cracking happens where we want it
  • A proper fall towards the street or a grated drain, never towards the garage

Finishes

Broom finish for grip, particularly on a slope. Steel trowel for a smoother look. Both can be coloured with oxide in the mix if you want to move away from grey without paying exposed aggregate prices.

Bayswater, Bentleigh, Box Hill, Brighton, Camberwell, Clayton, Croydon, Dandenong, Doncaster, Ferntree Gully, Glen Waverley, Hawthorn, Keysborough, Lilydale, Mentone, Mount Waverley, Ringwood, Rowville, Springvale, Wantirna South and every suburb in between.

Process

From enquiry to a driveway you can park on

  1. Enquiry

Call or send the form with the suburb and the type of driveway. A site measure is booked, usually within a few days.

  2. Site measure and fixed quote

Dimensions, fall, access and drainage are assessed on site. A council crossover permit may be required for the street section. The written quote is fixed.

  3. Preparation and pour

Existing surface removed and the area prepped, with base material brought in where needed. Mesh laid, crossover formwork inspected by council, then the pour. Most residential driveways are one day on site.

  4. Cure and seal

Vehicles off for seven days. Exposed aggregate is sealed after the concrete has cured.

Plain concrete driveways questions

How thick should a residential concrete driveway be?

Around 100mm is typical for cars and 4WDs. If you park a caravan or a truck on it, a thicker slab with heavier mesh is quoted.

How long before I can drive on it?

Foot traffic after 24 hours, cars after 7 days. Concrete keeps gaining strength for about a month, so keep heavy vehicles off for that long if you can.

Do you need a permit for a driveway in Melbourne?

The driveway on your own land usually doesn't. The crossover, the bit between your boundary and the road, may need a vehicle crossing permit from your council. Requirements and fees vary by council.
